Rome Ruins -- and Oranges!

This is a building called the Wedding Cake🎂. It was built because it resembled the unification of Italy🏳.

This is the Forum. It is a bunch of ruins and anchant buildings.

 Hello!👋 This is Penny writing today!🎀💅 We went to the Colosseum but didn't go inside.😔It was still cool though.👍 It was SOOOOOOOOOO crowded. There was this group of like 4th or 5th graders going around. They were SO loud and kept stepping on my stuff!😑😡(BTW, the order I wrote this is not the order we did that day. Its in order of the pictures.😄) We went to a building called the Wedding Cake too🎂. It was HHHHHUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGEEEEEEE😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was so happy when my dad said we weren't going up those stairs! We also saw the Forum. The group of students were there too! Doing THE SAME ANNOYING THINGS😩. They must of stepped on my stuff over 50 times! Anyways, the Forum is a place where ruins of anchant Rome are. Not all of the stuff is still there but most of it is👍. There are temples, churches, villages, ect. Another place we went to is the Arch of Constantine. Its right next to the Colosseum. It doesn't look too big in the picture but its massive up close. When we were walking back "home", we went to a rose garden. We got some pics there📸. We went up a hill to an orange grove and got more pics📸🟠. We walked up another hill to go look through a keyhole🔑🕳. (There are a lot of hills in Italy.) There was a long line to see it. There was a food truck and a guy playing the guitar there. People were taking SSSSSOOOOOOOO LONG😩😩! One guy got so mad he yelled at them to leave because they were taking so long. Everybody started to be quicker after that😅. When we FINNALY got to look through, we could see the dome of Saint Peters. We got a Fanta after. Fanta is yellow in Italy🟡! We had a safe walk home. Have a nice rest of your day in Newport😊! Bye!

    Hi Penny! Great post! I love visiting the orange grove on the Aventine Hill. The whole place smells like oranges! And what a view of the Vatican and St. Peters from that spot. The keyhole is so cool! I love all your pics and stories -- keep posting!

Vatican Museums: Old Art Aplenty

🖌 🎨 (This is Craig's Dad filling in some of the gaps, though Penny picked out the pictures.) Friday we went to the Vatican Museums. It was hot, and crowded, but otherwise a great experience. The top pic is a selfie in front of Raphael's School of Athens with all of history's great philosophers, Plato and Aristotle at the center. The museum stretches on forever with Roman statues, medieval frescoes (a form of mural painting on wet plaster that is really difficult but spectacular), and even some more contemporary art at the end (like the last painting with the traveling Cardinal and chunky cows). Above is the famous Laocoon where the Trojan priests and his sons are killed by a sea monster for warning his countrymen to not accept the Greek gift of the Trojan horse. Next, Lucy & Penny are in front of Nero's bathtub -- it's huge! There are also amazing tapestries like this one of Jesus, whose eyes follow you across the room.
